What Is a BPO Call Center?

A BPO call center is a business process outsourcing provider that manages customer interactions (calls, chats, emails and social messages) on behalf of another company. Instead of staffing and running your own contact center, you contract a BPO to handle some or all of your customer service, sales or technical support operations. Companies outsource to BPOs to reduce costs, scale quickly, access multilingual support or extend service hours without building out internal infrastructure. BPOs serve industries like healthcare, financial services, retail and technology, often operating across multiple time zones and countries.

Five9 is a technology partner to BPO organizations worldwide. The Five9 Intelligent CX Platform gives BPOs a cloud-native contact center with built-in AI, workforce engagement management and omnichannel capabilities. BPOs can onboard new clients quickly because Five9 runs in the cloud with no hardware to install. Five9 also supports multi-tenant configurations so BPOs can manage multiple client programs from a single platform.

What Services Do BPO Call Centers Provide?

BPO call centers handle a range of customer-facing and back-office functions:

  • Inbound customer service answers questions, resolves issues and processes requests on behalf of the client brand.

  • Outbound sales and lead generation contacts prospects through phone, email or text campaigns using predictive or progressive dialing.

  • Technical support troubleshoots product or service issues, often with tiered escalation paths from basic to advanced support.

  • Back-office processing handles tasks like data entry, claims processing, order fulfillment and document management.

  • Multilingual support provides customer service in multiple languages across global markets without the client needing to hire and train multilingual staff.
