What Is Call Center Shrinkage?

Call center shrinkage is a metric that calculates how much time contact center agents are unavailable to handle customer interactions during their regular work hours. It includes time lost due to breaks, meetings, training sessions, holidays, absenteeism, and unexpected interruptions. Shrinkage is a critical metric because high shrinkage can lead to longer wait times for customers, increased stress on available agents, and generally poorer customer experiences.

There are several benefits to measuring call center shrinkage:

  • Helps improve workforce management by improving scheduling
