This summer, Five9 was pleased to welcome 58 interns to the intern class of 2022! These bright, young professionals have brought new perspectives into their work at Five9 while developing their talents with the Five9 team. The internship program encourages growth, learning, and contribution under the motto “Do Great Things." We look forward to witnessing our interns’ achievements throughout the summer and allowing them to grow, learn, and contribute in their own unique ways.

In celebration of National Intern Day, coming up on July 28th, we are highlighting some of our incredible interns and their experience with Five9 thus far.

Meet Calvin Kamson, the WFO Project Management Intern. CalvinCalvin works with the Workforce Optimization team and is currently focusing on developing a strategy for how the WFO team should release their products in the future. He is strongly motivated to help WFO and Cloud Operations follow a successful release process, while also helping Five9 achieve its core mission. “With how impactful this new interface will be for customers, it is crucial that the roadmap and release steps are formalized and arranged in a manner that Cloud Operations can adhere to,” Calvin says. “If all goes well, then I will be helping Five9 achieve its mission of having a 99.999% reliability in their product(s).”

Calvin’s contributions to the team so far have allowed him to achieve a better understanding of managing projects, working cross-functionally with other departments, leading meetings with key stakeholders, and spending time driving actionable insights. His experience in the Five9 community has further encouraged his learning and allowed him to feel comfortable beyond the WFO team. “As an intern, I do not have all the answers to the questions I am facing; however, by feeling welcomed and ingrained within the company culture, I feel more obliged and open to seek out those questions I have,” he says.

Calvin shared that the welcoming culture is one of many reasons why Five9 is a great place to work, and that the inclusivity that the company fosters has allowed him to be comfortable with making mistakes and learning from them. “Whether it is with speaking to my manager, an employee in another department, or even a VP, there is this infectious feeling of collaboration and welcomeness that has ignited my capacity to learn, resulting in a remarkable internship experience!”

Five9 aims to help the interns flourish through providing them with meaningful work, feedback, and experiences. Interns like Calvin have shown their appreciation for these events and opportunities to grow with Five9.

“I wanted to work somewhere where I knew I would grow professionally and personally,” Calvin says. “During my time at the company, I have learned so much about product management, and have also learned many other skills that will help me in my career.

The intern program has featured a speaker series, meet and greets with e-staff, networking events, and weekly intern gatherings to allow every level of the company to connect and learn from each other.

“Having my voice heard as an intern has made me feel significantly valued and appreciated,” Calvin says “The experience so far has been great, and I am looking forward to the rest of my time as an intern here at Five9.”
